Alexis Marchais is an engineer based in France, publishing independently for a US audience, with experience in high-stakes operational environments where a decision has to be justified before it is acted on. That habit shapes everything here: state the constraints, compute conservatively, show the reasoning, and accept that the correct answer is sometimes that nothing available fits.

Before the Battery is independently operated. No company sponsors the publication, no manufacturer controls its editorial work, and no merchant can influence a ranking or conclusion. Three affiliate programs have administratively accepted the publisher: BLUETTI, ALLPOWERS and Zendure. Acceptance is administrative approval, not endorsement or a paid partnership. Two free decision tools are live; the dated product catalog is evidence-gated, and some eligible outbound links are affiliate links, disclosed in place. Eligibility and ranking are decided before commission.

Editorial rules

• Situation before brand. Analysis begins with a declared use case, loads, hours, peaks, priorities and recharge conditions. A brand name is never an entry point and never a ranking factor.
• Source-backed specifications. Every specification is traceable to a manufacturer document or an equivalent verifiable source, with a note on evidence quality.
• Volatile data is dated. Prices, stock and lineup information carry a time stamp and are stored separately from stable specifications. Undated figures are not presented as current.
• Unknown stays unknown. A value that cannot be verified is marked unknown. It is never quietly estimated, rounded up, or inferred from a similar model.
• Ranking before commission. Any future commercial layer is applied after the order of a verdict set is fixed. Commission is never an input to the reasoning.
• Corrections are logged. Mistakes are corrected in place and recorded with a date on the revision log.
